A man has been sentenced to 17 years and 9 months imprisonment for the rape of his 5 year old cousin.
The man had raped the boy on 16th July last year in Navuso. The incident had occurred when the victim had gone to the man's house to get ice-block.
High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe while delivering the sentence told the man that the sexual exploitation of a child is a serious crime.
Justice Rajasinghe said there was a considerable difference in age when the crime was committed where the man was 25 years old and the victim was 5 years old.
The man can apply for parole after 15 years and 9 months.
