Man remanded for allegedly striking pregnant wife with cane knife in Waiqanake

The man who allegedly stuck his wife on the head with a cane knife in Waiqanake Village, Rewa has been remanded in custody by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Esala Qio is charged with one count of act with intent to cause grievous harm.

Magistrate Sangeeth Somaratne says this is an indictable offence and he will not be able to transfer the matter to the High Court without getting a medical report.

The Police persecution has been given time until tomorrow to provide the woman's medical report.

Qio allegedly struck his wife while he was drunk on Friday morning.

An eyewitness says the woman was pregnant at the time of the incident.

The matter has been adjourned until tomorrow.
