A man is currently being questioned for allegedly stealing a car from Johnson Road in Lautoka this morning.

The owner of the Blue Toyota Vios discovered it missing at around 4.30am.

Chief of Operations ACP Abdul Khan says once the report was received, officers in the Western Division started communicating on tracking down the vehicle.

Khan says roadblocks were up and the Dog Unit along with the Crime Scene Investigations team were deployed to assist in locating the stolen vehicle.

He says at around 6am, the vehicle failed to stop at the Naidovi Checkpoint in Rakiraki and police officers gave a chase.

They later found the vehicle in Raiwasa while the driver had fled to the nearby sugar cane field.

Khan adds they deployed the K9 team along with officers living in the Rakiraki Barracks to comb the area for the suspect and within minutes, officers managed to apprehend him.
