Man gets 11 years and 11 months jail term for raping partner’s daughter

A man who raped his partner’s 12-year-old daughter in Nadi has been sentenced to 11 years and 11 months imprisonment by the Lautoka High Court.

The man was charged with 2 counts of rape and the incidents happened in 2016.

It was heard in court that the man and the girl’s mother were in a relationship for a long time.

While sentencing the man, Judge, Justice Chamath Morais says there was a gross breach of trust and the impact of the crime on girl was traumatic.

The Judge says the man is said to be remorseful and has no previous convictions or any pending cases.

A non-parole period of 8 years and 11 months has been set.
