A 41-year-old man tragically lost his life on Thursday at Tore Settlement in Lautoka while fitting an excavator bucket, which is used for digging.

Police say it is alleged that a truck, driven by a 44-year-old man reversed and hit the man.

He was rushed to the Lautoka Hospital, where medical officials confirmed his death.

A post mortem will be conducted as investigations continue.

The driver is expected to be questioned soon.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Police Force is urging drivers and pedestrians to adhere to road safety rules, as multiple road accidents have been recorded claiming lives and causing serious injuries to people.

They say road safety is everyone’s responsibility — and it starts with understanding that every decision you make will affect your safety but also the lives of others on the road.

Report reckless driving behaviour by contacting the National Command Centre on 9905296.
