Man charged for the alleged attempted rape of step daughter

Police have charged a 40-year-old carpenter who had allegedly attempted to rape his step daughter in Suva last week.

The matter was reported at the Totogo Police Station by the victim's mother.

Police had earlier said that the victim was sleeping with both her mother and the suspect in the same bed, and when her mother was in the bathroom, she heard her daughter scream.

They say when she returned, she noticed her daughter was alone and the suspect missing.

The next morning her daughter informed her of what allegedly happened.

The accused has been charged with one count of attempted rape and one count of sexual assault and will be produced in the Suva Magistrates Court today.
