Man charged for aggravated robbery claims he was allegedly assualted by police

The 22-year-old man who allegedly robbed a woman with two others in Domain in Nasese on Saturday told the court that he was allegedly assaulted by police officers in police custody.

Jone Delai asked the court if he could be taken to the hospital.

Delai who is charged with a count of aggravated robbery appeared before Magistrate Liyanage Wickramasekara today.

Magistrate Wickramasekara ordered the escorting officer to take Delai to the CWM hospital before he is taken to the remand center.

The 22-year-old has been remanded in custody.

Delai was arrested by a team of officers from Totogo over the weekend.

He is alleged to have robbed a woman of her handbag which contained $300, Visa cards and a mobile phone.

Police say the second suspect was arrested this morning. Police say he is believed to be the driver of their getaway vehicle.

Police are still hunting for the third suspect.
