The man who is alleged to have killed a family’s pet dog, Oscar, in Vatuwaqa two weeks ago has been released on bail by the Suva Magistrates Court.

Isikeli Maravu is charged with one count of criminal intimidation and one count of causing death to an animal.

Maravu appeared before Magistrate Vinaina Diroiroi yesterday afternoon and was released on bail with a cash bond of $300 and one surety.

Dog-Attack

Maravu was also warned by Magistrate Diroiroi to appear in court for his court dates and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.

Police Prosecution did not object to the bail as Maravu had indicated that he was attacked twice by Oscar the dog, outside the compound.

Maravu was seen with a deep gash on his foot and scratches on his arm.

Magistrate Diroiroi has given Maravu 21 days for a plea.

It is alleged that on the 31st of August, Maravu and another person brutally killed Dakshay Kumar’s pet dog Oscar, with a concrete block, as he was stuck helplessly in their fence.

Kumar says Oscar was stuck helplessly, waiting for help, when two drunk men came with a concrete block and struck him.

Maravu will appear in court again on 6th October.
