Major developer urges FRA to install traffic lights near shopping and cinema complex in Nakasi

A major developer is urging the Fiji Roads Authority to install traffic lights near the entrance of a major shopping and cinema complex in Nakasi.

The call comes as major traffic congestion has been witnessed where motorists going in and coming out of this complex have been seen waiting for long in queues.

Some near misses have also been witnessed where accidents could have occurred.

This complex currently houses a major supermarket, a cinema complex and a number of major shopping outlets like Courts Fiji Limited, Prouds Fiji, Rups Big Bear, Jacks Fiji, Vodafone Fiji and Wishbone Fiji.

HFC Bank has also opened its new outlet there.

Rups Big Bear’s Director Sheren Kumar says they have done their part and contributed a considerable amount of money to the FRA towards the installation of proposed traffic lights at the site.

He says they have also opened another access to the complex at their own cost but still need traffic lights at the area to ease major traffic congestion.

When contacted, FRA’s CEO, Jonathan Moore says there is a plan to put traffic control on Kings Road in this area and they are reviewing the most coherent approach considering the other planned development in this area.

He has provided no other comments to our questions and its not clear when the traffic lights are expected to be installed.
