The final journey of the late iconic personality of VITIFM, Maikeli Radua will begin from CWM Hospital Mortuary on Brown Street at 5am.

Maikeli’s funeral cortege will make its way to Communications Fiji Limited, where he will be farewelled at his workplace at 231 Waimanu Road.

People who want to say their final goodbye to Maikeli can wait along the route of his final journey to Waikete Village.

The cortege will go from Brown Street towards Milverton Road, Grantham Road to along Jittu Estate, then Karsanji Street, Jerusalem Road, and Nokonoko Road before reaching his home at Vesivesi Road in Kinoya.

The funeral procession will then go through Ratu Dovi Road to the main road in Laqere, heading towards Nausori.

From there, the cortege will take a turn at Nadali Village before making its way to his home village in Waikete, Nakelo, Tailevu, where his family will gather for a final traditional ceremony before his burial.

Upon his arrival at the village, his family will present a tabua (whale’s tooth) as vakasobu, a solemn gesture of respect and honour, traditionally offered to acknowledge someone of great importance.

The CFL staff will then carry Maikeli to the village hall, where they will present another tabua in a heartfelt soli ni yago — the formal handover of his body to the village elders — marking the final homecoming of their beloved son, brother, and friend.

The funeral church service for Maikeli Radua will take place at 10am tomorrow at Waikete Village.

Meanwhile, the Vunivalu Na Tui Namosi, a close friend of Maikeli, presented his final reguregu last night. They shared a long-standing friendship, as their sons played together in the Secondary Schools Rugby Competition.

Additionally, a moment of silence will be observed for Maikeli before the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua vs Crusaders match at HFC Bank Stadium tomorrow.

His final journey will be live-streamed on the VITIFM facebook page from 5am tomorrow.
