The Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji says there was no oil leakage from the MV Suilven although 3000 litres of light diesel oil was on-board the vessel before it sunk at the Suva Harbour on Tuesday.

Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport, Francis Kean says when the MV Suilven departed Ovalau it was carrying 8000 litres of diesel fuel but only 3000 litres was remaining when it sunk.

He says they have conducted a second dive on the sunken vessel MV Suilven and it again revealed that there was no oil leaking from the fuel tanks onboard.

Kean says they are now having discussions with the owner of the MV Suilven, Venu Shipping on the options for removing the vessel from its current location.
