The World Health Organisation says post COVID-19 conditions are real and they are working to ensure it is recognised in countries and that patients get the care that they need for the long term.

The Technical Lead of the WHO COVID-19 Response Doctor Maria Van Kerkove says they have had 409 million COVID-19 cases reported worldwide and there are a significant number of people suffering from post-COVID conditions.

She says they are working to better understand this everyday.

Doctor Van Kerkove says long COVID is something some countries are just starting to recognise and it needs a significant amount of attention.

She adds post-COVID conditions will be part of our future and it is something countries need to invest in right now.
