Lautoka resident Allen Lockington has started a petition objecting the conversion of the land near the Suva Botanical Gardens.
Lockington told Fijivillage that the Gardens have exotic plants and some could be cut down to make way for the construction of the embassy.
He says there are many other places this construction can be done.
Lockington says he is aiming for 1,000 signatures.
