Live Tsunami siren test to be conducted next Monday

There will be a live tsunami siren testing done next Monday for the Suva and Lami corridor at 11am.

The National Disaster Management Office says this exercise is part of the government's continued plan towards improving its state of readiness for any tsunami event.

The NDMO says the purpose of this exercise is also to test the functionality of the sirens.

They say there is a total of 13 sirens installed along the Suva foreshore with an acoustic of 1.2 kilometres.

The siren locations include; Water Authority of Fiji Kinoya Sewerage Plant, FINTEL - Vatuwaqa, RFMF Officers Training School - Vatuwaqa, USP Statham Campus, USP Main Campus, USP Lower Campus, Veiuto Primary School, Government Training Centre - Nasese, iTaukei Trust Fund Board, SCC Civic Car Park Rooftop, Biosecurity, Renown Street - Suva Central, Government Shipping Services - Walu Bay and Lami Town

They add all 13 tsunami sirens will be activated, however no evacuation is required.
