Newly appointed Director of the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission Loukinikini Vili Lewaravu

Loukinikini Vili Lewaravu has been appointed the new Director of the Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission.

Fiji Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Commission Chairperson Pravesh Sharma says Lewaravu brings to the role her experience and knowledge of working with National Human Rights Institutions in the Pacific region.

Sharma says Lewaravu spent almost the last 10 years working for the Samoa National Human Rights Institutions, and was the Director of the Institution for almost 8 years.

He says Lewaravu also brings a broad knowledge and understanding of international human rights laws, UN human rights mechanisms, and regional human rights issues.

The Chairperson says earlier in July this year, Lewaravu joined the Asia Pacific Forum of NHRIs, OHCHR, and UNDP team as an NHRI expert to conduct a capacity assessment for the Human Rights Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Central Asia.
