The Nausori Chamber of Commerce and Industry says it supports the call made by the Suva Retailers Association for a full lockdown as the closure of essential businesses for a short period of time will help in getting rid of the COVID-19 virus and then they will be able to do a fresh start.
Secretary, Rajan Prasad says this will restrict movement and the respective authorities will then be able to carry out screening and testing for COVID-19. Prasad the Chamber is also liaising with all essential businesses in Nausori to strictly comply with all the requirements in place and is urging the general public to maintain safe distance and wear masks.
Rajan says they will also try to conduct a survey once things normalises and discuss with businesses especially micro and small enterprises on how they can be helped in this period.
He says the Nausori Chamber of Commerce is also working closely with the Commissioner Central and the Ministry of Health in ensuring community isolation facilities are equipped and frontline workers have the necessary tools.
Prasad says they have arranged 50 single bed mattresses so far which is for the community isolation facilities.
They are also providing bottled water and batteries for thermometer guns.
