Landowners receive $64M as lease money for 2014

About sixty four million dollars in land lease money was distributed to the iTaukei landowners last year.

ITaukei Land Trust Board General Manager Alipate Qetaki said this was above their target of $45 million set out at the beginning of last year.

Qetaki said they collected $61 million as land rent over the past 12 months and it is the highest collection compared to previous years.

He also said the total available funds for the landowners last year was $71 million which includes an additional $10 million that was carried forward from 2013.

Qetaki said some landowners have not received their lease money as they do not have bank accounts or have differences in a landowning unit.

A balance of $7 million from last year will be carried forward to this year.
