It was a day of celebration as the staff of Lakeba Sub-divisional Hospital celebrated the hospital's 50th anniversary with the daughter of the late Tui Nayau, Adi Koila Mara Nailatikau being the chief guest.

The hospital was opened in 1985 by the former President and Prime Minister Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara.

While speaking during the celebration, Adi Koila says this hospital holds dear to them because their father, the late Tui Nayau used to send them to bring fish to the doctors and nurses serving at the hospital.

She says the late Tui Nayau was passionate about health and it showed in his political life.

She also acknowledged the contribution from the Indian Government and the presence of the Indian High Commissioner Suneet Mehta.

Adi Koila says she personally thinks that the curriculum for children should place greater emphasis on the needs of communities in the maritime region, such as agriculture, health, and maritime.

She also called on the government to provide more health assistance for hospitals and health centres in maritime areas.
