Mere Dimoi and Laite Matebalavu who will be making their debut for the Labasa Women’s soccer team in the Women’s IDC today at ANZ Stadium aim to leave their mark and win the final this time around.

The Labasa soccer team lost to Ba 3-2 in the final last year.

20-year-old Mere Dimoi is the youngest sister of Labasa striker Ratu Apenisa Anare.

Dimoi says she is excited to debut for her home team as a striker.

She says she wants to be like her brother and score goals.

18-year-old Year 12 student, Laite Matebalavu who will be making her debut as a goalkeeper says this will be first time for her to play at the ANZ Stadium and it will be memorable for her.

She says she started out as a striker but because of her height, her coach decided to make her the goalkeeper.

Coach Arthur Simmons says they have a young team with a number of senior players unavailable and it a good opportunity for the young players to step up as they are being exposed to this level of competition.

Labasa takes on Tailevu Naitasiri at 6.30pm today.

Meanwhile, Suva takes on Nasinu at 12pm, Rewa faces Nadroga at 2pm, defending champions while Ba takes on Nadi at 4pm.

The final will be played on Monday.
