Livai Lino charged with killing a man in 2013 has been found guilty

High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo has found 42-year-old Livai Lino guilty of murdering a man in 2013.

He concurred with the three assessors that all returned with a guilty opinion.

Lino stabbed 42 year old Ashwin Lal to death with a kitchen knife outside a shopping complex adjacent to Namotomoto Village in Nadi in 2013.

In his summing up, High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo said that Lino is a former patient of St Giles Hospital and would always roam around Nadi Town.

Justice Temo also said that Lino pleaded guilty to one count of murder but denied that he intended to cause death and he chose to remain silent and called no witnesses.

The Judge said the accused fled the scene after stabbing the man.

Lino will be sentenced today.
