Former senior military officer and current Minister for Employment, Major General Jioji Konrote will be elected President of the Republic of Fiji later this morning.
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has nominated Konrote while the Opposition side has nominated Ratu Epeli Ganilau.
Majority of the MPs will vote for Konrote as the government side has the numbers to elected the new President.
This would be a historic moment as our previous Presidents were chosen by the Great Council of Chiefs.
Parliament will begin at 9.30 this morning.
