Dual Olympic gold medallist, Jerry Tuwai

Dual Olympic gold medallist, Jerry Tuwai has been called back to the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s side for the Toulouse and London 7s tournaments.

Filipe Sauturaga and Paula Nayacakalou are also returning to the 7s side.

Sauturaga was ruled out for three months after sustaining an injury in the Hamilton 7s in January.

Nayacakalou replaces Tevita Daugunu who sustained a knee injury in Singapore last month.

Tuwai’s presence would certainly be a motivating factor for the team to finish on a high in France and England.

The side will hope to finish high in both of these tournaments to earn a direct qualification to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Other players included in the 13-member squad are Joseva Talacolo, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Josese Batirerega, Ponipate Loganimasi, Suliano Volivoli, Terio Tamani, Waisea Nacuqu, Manueli Maisamoa, Vuiviawa Naduvalo and Iowane Teba.

Notable omissions from the 7s list are, Pilipo Bukayaro and Napolioni Bolaca.

Fiji’s first match in the Toulouse 7s is against USA at 12.57am next Saturday, they play South Africa at 7.03am next Saturday and battle France at 12.11am Sunday in their final pool game.

The cup quarter-finals will start at 3.16am Sunday, the cup semi-finals will begin at 11.32pm Sunday and the cup final will be held at 3.56am on the 15th of this month.

The London 7s will be held on the 20th and 21st of this month.

The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s squad to Toulouse and London tournaments:

Joseva Talacolo, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Josese Batirerega, Ponipate Loganimasi, Paula Nayacakalou, Suliano Volivoli, Terio Tamani, Jerry Tuwai, Waisea Nacuqu, Filipe Sauturaga, Manueli Maisamoa, Vuiviawa Naduvalo, Iowane Teba.
