Former Olympian and robust forward for the Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team Jerry Matana will lead the team in Dubai as the captain, and he will try and restore the lost glory at the Exile Stadium.

Matana says they have prepared well for this tournament and he is confident that the players will step up and produce the winning result needed for this leg of the World Series.

The former Wairiki College Student says it’s a dream come true to captain the 7s side and says that hard work pays off if you sacrifice and show commitment during training.

Matana says he is grateful to have the supporter from his team mates as he takes on the new role.

He further says that the atmosphere in camp is positive and the players are fully prepared for the challenge, ready to face whatever comes their way.

Fiji last won the Dubai 7s title in 2015 when current coach Osea Kolinisau was a player.

Fiji will take on Spain at 6.06pm today in their first match, they will then take on the USA at 9.52pm the same evening before they play NZ at 3.16am tomorrow in their final pool match.

Meanwhile, the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s side will take on Ireland at 5.44pm today in their first pool match, they will then face Australia at 9.05pm the same evening and then play China at 1.13am tomorrow in their final pool match.
