The Japanese Government has today provided over 56,000 doses of Japanese manufactured AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX facility to Fiji.

Minister for Health, Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete says these vaccines will enable them to continue to strive to have as many Fijians as possible fully vaccinated.

The Ambassador of Japan to Fiji, Kawakami Fumihiro says Japan highly values the longstanding friendship between the two countries and he is confident that the successful vaccination of the people will not only help Fijians stay safe from COVID-19 but also build a pathway to re-emergence of livelihoods, an increase of employment and broader economic recovery of Fiji.

UNICEF Pacific Representative, Vathinee Jitjaturunt says UNICEF will continue working closely with their partners, under the leadership of the Ministry of Health to support the COVID vaccine roll out to ensure the safety of all children, their families and communities.

The Prime Minister of Japan, Suga Yoshihide has announced that Japan intends to provide a total of approximately three million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Pacific Island Forum countries.
