Japan provides new equipment to boost Tilapia fry production

The Ministry of Fisheries has received new equipment from Japan which will boost tilapia fry production from 1.2 to 2.2 million annually.

Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Omura Masahiro presented the equipment to the Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau at the Naduruloulou Aquaculture Centre in Naitasiri today.

He says the deployment of JICA Aquaculture experts has assisted their local staff in prawn, tilapia, carp breeding and stocking.



Koroilavesau says the arrival of this new specialized equipment funded under the Grassroots Human Security Projects program brings relief in addressing food security with the pondering effects of COVID-19.

He says the new equipment will maximize direct assistance to the ordinary freshwater aquaculture farmers in Fiji.
