It’s time to stand together as one, stop the blame game and help those people who have been severely affected by the floods over the weekend.
Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said people need to remain united and focused on helping those who may find it hard to recover.
While speaking to Fijivillage from Ba in the last hour, Commodore Bainimarama calls on people to remain strong and also thanks those who have not been affected by the floods, for already coming forward to assist.
“This is not the first flood we have encountered. And it certainly is not the first flood this year. The sun will come out tomorrow. We will try and get back on our own two feet. We thank those people that were not affected in the provision of assistance especially our overseas Fiji citizens, our international community and of course the government officials around the affected areas that have been working full time, flat out, in trying to bring relief to those that have been affected.”
Commodore Bainimarama said he is ensuring that the government machinery is working well to provide the much needed food rations.
“The government officials are working flat out to ensure that the evacuation centres are looked after in terms of rations and water. That is happening throughout. They are updating the Commissioner Western in this case of what is happening and it has so far been good.”
The Prime Minister said he is also ensuring that government officials visit those people who need assistance and are not at evacuation centers because they do not want to leave their houses.
“We are not only worried about the people in the evacuation centres, we are also worried about people, individuals and villagers who cannot come out to the evacuation centres for obvious reasons. They are worried about their homes. So government officials are going out to ensure they get in touch with those people so they can be provided with rations and water.”
Commodore Bainimarama has been visiting the flood affected areas since Saturday.
