National Vice President Culture and Religion of the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji Vigyan Sharma.

The National Vice President Culture and Religion of the Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji says people should not celebrate Diwali in an expensive way as there are many people suffering out there and it will be only right to share whatever we have with the underprivileged so that they can also have their prayers.

Vigyan Sharma is also urging people to assist those who have lost their jobs and are unable to provide for their families due to COVID-19.

Sharma says it will be a wonderful Diwali if those that are still earning can share their wealth with those that are suffering.

Diwali celebrations begin today with ‘Dhanteras’. It is the day when people pray to Goddess Lakshmi for wealth and prosperity.

On this day, people also purchase utensils and jewellery to bring good luck.

Davuilevu Housing resident, Soni Lata says her family is facing a lot of difficulties this year as her partner who is a construction worker, does not have a steady flow of income.

She says they are not planning to celebrate Diwali on a grand scale and will be praying to Goddess Lakshmi for the well-being of her family.
