Investigations into supermarket fire begins
Firefighters try to control the fire from MH Supermarket in Nabua from spreading to nearby buildings.

The National Fire Authority investigators will begin their investigations this morning after MH Supermarket in Nabua was destroyed in a fire late yesterday.

NFA CEO John O’Connor has confirmed that fire trucks from Suva, Valelevu and Nausori were at the scene last night and managed to control the fire from spreading to the Fiji Police Force Southern Headquarters and other surrounding buildings.

Seven fire trucks and more than 20 fire fighters were at the scene last night trying to control the fire.

He adds they have cooled down the hot spots at the site.

O’Connor says when they arrived at the scene the supermarket was fully engulfed in flames.

All staff and customers were safely evacuated when the fire started.

The fire also created a huge traffic jam which ended at Ratu Mara Road in Samabula.

Police also caught two youth who allegedly tried to enter the burning supermarket.

They were trying to get in to remove some items.

The total cost of damage is not known at this stage.
