The Commissioner of Police has directed the Internal Affairs Director to investigate the conduct of a Police Officer while dealing with a bus driver in Suva.

This follows a video being circulated by a Nasese Bus driver with a post by him claiming that a Police Officer in civillian clothes did not want to show his Police ID and repeatedly demanded his driver’s licence. The video also shows a Police Officer in uniform, manhandling the bus driver.

In a statement, Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho says the officer could have handled the situation differently to diffuse what was becoming a difficult situation as the bus driver after repeated requests to hand over his driver’s licence refused to do so.

The Commissioner says the bus driver's refusal to cooperate was at the time inconveniencing other road users when he refused to move his bus from the location which was blocking the road.

Police say the driver in this case however was charged with failure to produce a driving licence.
