Independent committee announced to review bus fares in the country

An independent committee has today been announced to review the bus fares in the country.

Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says the committee will be chaired by Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission CEO Joel Abraham.

Other committee members include Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, the Solicitor General the CEO of the Consumer Council of Fiji, the CEO of Land Transport Authority, the President of the Fiji Bus Operators Association and the President of the Fiji Chamber of Commerce.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the committee will review the bus fares with a view to looking at a reduction.

They are expected to hold consultations around the country.

The aim is to announce the new bus fares in the New Year.
