An increase in the number of males in villages can be one of the contributing factors to the increase in sexual crimes.
Interim Social Welfare Minister Dr Jiko Luveni said this adding she visited most of the villages and the elderly told her that the majority of females came to the city for education and employment and are not returning.
She also said that these young girls are venerable to sexual crime when they are in rural areas.
Dr Luveni said the interim government are currently focusing on bringing investments to rural areas and outer islands, which they believe can be a solution to urban drift.
