Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama at the 2017 Fiji Police Force Medal Award Parade

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says he has been made aware that some police officers have disregarded their duty and failed Fijians who sought their help.

While speaking at the 2017 Fiji Police Force Medal Award Parade at the Nasova grounds this morning, Bainimarama says he has been made aware that some Fijians have been treated as less than full citizens by our police and he is in Nasova to tell the officers  that this will not be tolerated.

He says the duty of service extends to all Fijians and all our Islands.

He told the police officers in Nasova that this is an issue far too important to go unaddressed.

Bainimarama says every woman, man and child who calls Fiji home is a Fijian and they are all entitled to every effort our Police Force can make to keep them safe.

He told the officers that just because someone lives in a squatter area or is a laborer does not mean that they deserve less.

Bainimarama says police should not turn away anyone because of their ethnicity or social status.

The Prime Minister awarded more than 300 officers with medals this morning.
