Health Minister Dr Neil Sharma believes that mental health facilities such as Saint Giles Hospital should not be replicated in other parts of the country because of its stigma.
We questioned him whether the Health Ministry is looking at providing major mental health facilities such as Saint Giles Hospital around the country apart from stress wards.
Dr Sharma said similar facilities will not be set up in other parts of Fiji.
Concerns have been raised by some that facilities like Saint Giles Hospital should be set up in the Western and Northern divisions.
Some families have also asked for assistance as some of the patients who are not well have been released to go home from Saint Giles Hospital.
Some of these patients need constant supervision and medicine.
Doctor Sharma said they have set up stress management wards in other areas and also have decentralized clinics.
