Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations Praveen Bala says someone like him who contested two elections under the old electoral system is thankful like many Fijians that they have moved on.

He says amendments to the current Electoral Act will only serve to further progress the system of democracy that respects the rights of voters.

Bala says he has been hearing from the early 80s that the electoral system has not been working and now when they are progressing and making changes, there is still opposition.

He says the current electoral system gives the voters a fair choice.
