Hurricane Ida hit Louisiana moving slowly across the state with heavy rains and high winds that have left more than 742,000 families without power.

The storm made landfall earlier in the day, on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with winds of 150mph.

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards requested a major disaster declaration from President Joe Biden as his state continues to be hit by Hurricane Ida.

Biden has already signed emergency declarations for Louisiana and Mississippi.
