Hunt underway for 5 escapees

Police and Correction officers are still looking for the five prisoners who escaped from the Naboro Medium Corrections facility around 8.30 last night.

The escapees are 30 year old Isoa Waqa who is serving 8 years for robbery with violence, 28 year old Solomoni Qurai who is serving a life sentence for burglary and murder, 29 year old Tevita Sugu who is serving a 13 year sentence for aggravated robbery, 25 year old Josaia Usumaki who is serving a 26 year sentence for robbery with violence and related offences and 30 year old Epeli Qaraniqio who is serving 8 years for robbery with violence.

Fiji Police Force has directed all relevant manpower and resources towards this operation and have requested members of the public to be patient over the next 24 hours as Police conduct operations on recapturing the five escapees.

According to police their main priority is to recapture the five escapees and as such road blocks will have to be erected especially during peak hours when the opportunity may rise for these escapees to move out of Central and Southern Division.

People are reminded that harboring an escapee is a crime and they can face a prison term of two years or a fine of $5,000.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the 5 escapees are encouraged to call Police or the Corrections Command Centre on 3100 107.
