The Governments new housing policy will ensure that people can live a dignified life in their own home and put Fiji at the forefront in the region in providing adequate housing to its people.
Speaking at the launch of the billion dollar Waila City project last night, Housing Authority Chairman Col Mosese Tikoitoga said the Housing Policy will be designed to resolve the housing issues in Fiji.
Colonel Tikoitoga also hinted that they will be able to construct houses at a cheaper price as the price of hardware items is expected to be significantly reduced when the new hardware prices are announced next month.
The Housing Policy is expected to be taken to cabinet for approval within the next three months.
Meanwhile, at the launch last night, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama stated that basic and affordable housing creates stability, economic growth and is empowerment.
Commodore Bainimarama said in the past, it was the inability pf housing stakeholders in the country that saw squalid housing and squatter settlements spring up.
He added that it is through the Waila City that there will be a change in the way housing in the country is approached.
