Hours Remain For Melbourne Cup Horse Race
With only hours remaining for the Melbourne Cup race, horses Septimus and Mad Rush have so far been rated as the favourites while another two horses have been scratched.
The race that stops Australia on every first Tuesday of November, will start at 4pm today and it has also become tradition for many people to also bet for their favourite horse in the Melbourne Cup and enjoy the afternoon with friends and workmates. More events are now being organised and many women prepare their best Melbourne Cup hat for days for race day.
On the tracks, Irish horse, Septimus was the outright favourite until yesterday but there is some doubt that it may not take the field today.
Manager for betting house, Grants Waterhouse, Vijen Kumar said we will know later today whether Septimus would run.
Another horse has been scratched from today's $5.5 Million Melbourne Cup.
Controversial English horse Yellow Stone was scratched yesterday after a week-long battle to get over a hip injury. The Cup field has been reduced to 22 with the scratching of Zarita because of a virus yesterday afternoon.
The Melbourne Cup race will start today at 4pm. The race is run on the first Tuesday in November since 1861.
17 horses contested the first Cup in 1861 racing for a prize of a gold watch and 170 pounds cash.
This year the total prize-money is $5.5-million-Australian plus a Gold Cup worth $75,000.
