Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has handed over more than $40,000 to Homes of Hope Fiji, an organisation which provides long-term care for girls, young mothers, and their children.

This was through a collective effort by Fijians living in Australia who did fundraising during the Fiji Day celebrations held in Sydney last year.

The Fiji High Commission in Canberra also hosted a Gala dinner function in Australia last year and all the contributions went towards the Prime Minister's Relief Fund.

In thanking the stakeholders during the handover, Bainimarama says he hopes these funds will go towards helping the abused mothers and girls at the Homes for Hope.

Bainimarama says the fundraising is done every year by Fijians living in Australia and other organisations.

He adds if it wasn't for COVID-19, they would have had another fundraising this year.
