It’s history in the making as the Fiji Women’s Deaf 7s team has won the gold medal for the first time in the Australian Deaf Games.

Fiji beat New South Wales Barbarians 19-0 and 33-14 in their first two games however they lost 17-10 in the last game.

Fiji finished the tournament with 9 points while NSW Barbarians had 4 points.

The management says this is the first time the Fiji Deaf Women’s team has played a rugby game.

Fiji’s Ethel Shute was the Best Player of the Australian Deaf Games for the women’s competition.
