Ganesh Chaturthi holds an immense religious significance where Hindus in Fiji and worldwide dedicate this festival to Lord Ganesha with great enthusiasm.

Lord Ganesha was born on Chaturthi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada.

He is considered as the god of wisdom, wealth and fortune and today is one of the most auspicious days to worship him.

It is a 10 day festival where on the first day idols of Ganesha are placed on platforms in homes.

Ganesha is also offered coconut, jaggery and modak (sweet dumplings), which are his favourite foods while at the end of the festival, the idols are carried to local rivers in huge processions accompanied by drumbeats, devotional singing, and dancing.

There they are immersed, a ritual symbolising Ganesha’s homeward journey to Mount Kailas — the abode of his parents, Shiva and Parvat
