The Highlanders could have the honour of being the first top-class sporting side to host a live event in front of a crowd since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

NZ Herald reports that New Zealand’s Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern is set to announce on Monday whether the country will move to Level 1, where there is hope that fans will then be able to buy tickets to the game.

Highlanders chief executive Roger Clark says there was real excitement about getting fans into the stadium and they could be the first live sporting event to have fans.

Clark says they have been in touch with their sponsors and members and they are excited about the news.

Meanwhile, three Fiji born players are expected to feature for the Highlanders including Jona Nareki, Kirisi Kuridrani and Tevita Nabura.

The Highlanders will face the Chiefs at 5.05pm next Saturday while the Blues will take on the Hurricanes at 3.05pm next Sunday.
