Minister for Infrastructure, Jone Usamate says the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant Service has normalized as of last night and the issue that caused the disruption is high turbidity levels being received at Tamavua Water Treatment Plant Service that severely affected production.

While responding to fijivillage, Usamate says this is what caused the drop in reservoir levels over the last two days.

Usamate also says high turbidity doesn’t only impact water supply treatment it also affects pumping capabilities.

The Minister adds the ideal turbidity levels for treatment is below 5 however as of 6am today, the turbidity level is currently 50.3.

He also says the Viria project currently in progress will provide WAF with the opportunity to supply 26 million litres per day of water into the Suva System which will assist in the reduction of these types of disruptions in the future.
