A helicopter carrying medical supplies from Nausori to Nadi was forced to make an unplanned landing in the hills of Nadroga at Saru after thick fog prevented the pilot from seeing clearly.

The safe landing in the remote village sparked excitement among residents and brought immense relief to the authorities.

Villager Peniasi Nabili, who was visiting for a short stay, told fijivillage News the villagers warmly welcomed the pilot and co-pilot, treating them to a hot meal and even holding a small celebration in their honour.

Nabili says the community had not expected the helicopter to land in their village, but they were grateful that both men were safe.

The pilot and co-pilot were treated like special guests and were encouraged to remain in the village until the weather improved.

He adds that it was the first time a helicopter had made an emergency landing there, and the villagers were proud to host the two men.

The helicopter departed for Nadi this morning.
