Heavy rain warning remains in force

A heavy rain warning remains in force for Vanua Levu, Eastern Viti Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti group and Kadavu.

Periods of heavy rain and squally thunderstorms is expected to affect Vanualevu and Northern Lau group. Elsewhere rain is expected to become frequent and heavy again later this afternoon.

Localised heavy rain may lead to flash flooding.

High tide is also expected this hour.

The Tropical Depression was located at about 125 kilometers North-North-East of Labasa at 3 this morning.

It is moving North-North-East at about 12 kilometers per hour.

Associated active cloud and rain bands will continue to affect the group.

Since 9am yesterday: Laucala Bay received 165.7mm of rainfall, Navua received 160.1mm of rainfall and Lomaivuna received 64.6mm of rainfall.

Meanwhile, all schools in the Central and Eastern division will remain closed today.

Minister for Education Filipe Bole has confirmed this to Fijivillage.

Bole said for other areas that are experiencing the same weather pattern as the Central and Eastern Division, schools can also be closed.
