Heavy rain warning for parts of Fiji

A heavy rain warning is in force for the eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu which include Suva, Tailevu, Naitasiri and Navua as well as Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti Group.

All this rain is being brought by a trough of low pressure that continues to slowly move over the Fiji group.

The Fiji Meteorological Service says this trough of low pressure is expected to affect the Fiji group until Saturday.

People can expect light showers to become heavy from tonight.

Please note that heavy rain may lead to flash flooding in low lying areas.

The Weather Office says there has already been significant rainfall in the last 24 hours.

36.0 millimetres of rain was recorded in Lodoni.

105.0 millimetres of rain was recorded in Monasavu in the last 24 hours while in Lomaivuna 91.0 millimetres of rain was recorded.

A flood warning is in force for low lying areas and small streams adjacent and downstream of Waibula river near Korovou Town.
