A heavy rain warning is in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa, eastern and northern Viti Levu, northern Lau and Lomaiviti Group.
Weather forecasters say intense weather conditions are expected today and tomorrow. Weather is expected to improve later in the week.
Localised flash flooding is possible.
An active trough of low pressure with associated cloud and rain just to the north of Fiji is gradually moving south towards the group.
