Heavy rain and strong winds remains across Fiji, flooding risk remains

A heavy rain warning remain across Fiji as an active trough of low pressure affects the group, bringing strong winds to parts of the country.

The Weather Office in Nadi says occasional rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms are expected over most places.

They say the rain is expected to gradually ease before becoming frequent again later tomorrow.

They further says that persistent heavy rain may lead to flash floods in low-lying and flood-prone areas, as well as severe river flooding in major rivers across Fiji.

People should prepare for potential impacts, including localized flooding in vulnerable communities, businesses, and low-lying areas, flooding of minor roads, Irish crossings, and bridges, as well as disruptions to traffic flow. Severe flooding of major rivers could also inundate towns and properties.
