Heavy rain alert now in force for Eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu and nearby islands

A heavy rain alert is now in force for Eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu which includes Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Navua and Pacific Harbour, and Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti group, Ovalau, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.

A flood alert also remains in place for low lying areas, small streams and areas adjacent to and downstream of the Waimanu River as a trough of low pressure remains slow moving over the country. The Nadi Weather Office says people can expect occasional rain with isolated thunderstorms and heavy rain in the Eastern and interior parts of Viti Levu which include Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, Navua and Pacific Harbour, and Vanua Levu, Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti group.

Heavy rain can cause flash flooding of low lying areas.
