A heavy rain alert is now in force for the Eastern half of Viti Levu (Serua-Namosi through Navua-Suva-Nausori to Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra areas), Yasawa group, the Northern Division, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands.
The Nadi Weather Office says a trough of low pressure lies over the Eastern parts of the country.
It is expected to gradually strengthen later today.
Associated cloud, showers and rain are expected to affect the group for the next few days.
Expect heavy at times and a few thunderstorms.
People living in low lying areas are to take necessary precautions.
